The Laurel River trail is only about 6 miles from French Broad Rafting Expeditions Marshall Outpost and about 40 minutes from Asheville NC an only 5 miles from Hot Springs NC in beautiful Madison County. The trail is along the Big Laurel river that empties into the French Broad River about 1/2 mile after Stackhouse rapid. The Laurel River trail is a 7 Mile round trip hike. It is considered to be an easy hike with a well maintained trail. The trail head for the Laurel River is at the intersection of Highways 25/70 and 208. It is a very popular river to fish for trout, but do not forget to bring your fishing license. About 3/4 of the way down the trail you will run into the ruins of an old town called Runion. Along the trail there are plenty of places to swim and relax along the Big Laurel River.

Thanks for the reminder. This is indeed a great shady hike on a hot summer day!
